A message from our English Department Chairman

To encourage continued learning during the summer months and to prepare students to begin the fall English program, the English department has a required summer reading program for grades 8-12. The reading requirements and study questions for your grade level are available below. These study questions are to be completed while reading the novel and are to be turned in to the English teacher the first day of school. A test over the summer novel will be given during the first week of school. Each student should have a personal copy of the novel for use in the classroom the first two weeks of school.

Please do not attempt to use a movie version of the novel in conjunction with or in place of reading the book. Movie versions are often different from the original and may confuse you. If you have already read the required selection, please obtain a copy to review and to use in class. The use of Cliff's Notes is not discouraged, but this study help may not be used for the test or for class discussion.

New students should come to class with a three-ring binder which includes plenty of loose-leaf notebook paper and at least 15 section dividers.  Spiral paper is not acceptable, and only blue or black ink is acceptable.

Enjoy your summer reading adventure!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Frances Henslee, Department Chairman
