Hope Christian School

Music Program at Hope

Piano Lab

The piano lab provides an opportunity for up to 10 students per class to have their own digital piano, with weighted keys and real piano foot pedals.  Students at all levels are accepted as each student works up to their own capabilities by wearing headphones.  They also get to perform in piano ensembles of up to four pianos.

Beginning Band

Students from grades 6 through 12 may learn a traditional band instrument such as flute, clarinet, percussion etc.   The purpose of this class is to prepare the student to take their place in the “Hope Christian School Concert Band”.  These beginning band students will perform in various concerts throughout the year.

Concert Band

This band is our premier performance group for students with at least one year experience on a band instrument.  This group performs at events such as Homecoming, various concerts throughout the year and will be taking part in music events through the District VII New Mexico  Music Educators Association, such as NM All-State, NM Honors Band, and solo & ensemble contests.

Jazz Band

This unique ensemble of select high school students has a focus on Jazz music, both traditional and self compositions.   This group performs many times each year.  They will also be taking part in events through the District VII New Mexico  Music Educators Association.

Praise and Worship Teams

Our Praise & Worship Teams are unique to “Hope Christian School”.   These music teams are made up of student musicians, instrumentalists and vocalists, who desire to praise God through music.  They begin chapel, each week, for High School, and Middle School, with contemporary Christian music.  Our High School Praise Team went on a music mission to Jakarta, Indonesia in March of 2012.

Guitar

The guitar program has a multifaceted approach to learning guitar. It has a concentration of classical guitar as the basis for the program. This concentration includes learning music theory, chord theory, fretboard logic, solo and ensemble, so that the student has a fundamental base of musical knowledge. Once proficiency is demonstrated in music theory it is applied to an eclectic range of music composition and performance. The other main focus of the program is to directly apply Psalm 33:3, and to train excellent musicians. The result is to have high quality, well rounded, Christian musicians.
