Honors and Advanced Placement Classes

The Honors Program is designed to give high school students a greater challenge. Honor classes allowed for each level are as follows: freshmen, three; sophomores, three; juniors, four; and seniors, four. Admission to the program is based on past academic records and teacher recommendations. GPA requirement is a 3.0 minimum. All interested students must formally apply for each honors class they wish to attend. (Forms are available in the office).

Honors classes are: Freshmen: Honors English, Algebra 2, Physical Science; Sophomores: Honors English, Math, Biology; Juniors: Honors English, Math, Chemistry, US History; Seniors: Honors English, Calculus, Civics, Physics

Advanced Placement Classes are: Calculus, and English IV (Literature and Composition,English III (Language and Composition), Chemistry, and Physics.

Classes taken for honors credit are calculated on a weighted 5.33 point scale rather than the usual 4.0 scale. Any grade below a “B” receives no honors value. Therefore, any student who earns below a “B” for the quarter will be placed on academic probation.

If the grade is not raised to a “B” or better at the semester, the student will be dropped from the program. If he/she is in a full-time honors class, he/she will be rescheduled to a regular class. If honors credit is earned for first semester, but the secondsemester grades drops below a “B,” honors credit will be given for the first semester only.
