Fine Arts and Performing Arts Classes

All Fine and Performing Arts course offerings are (E) Electives

Drama I and II (E)
The course is designed to provide students with background and experience in theater. The emphasis will be on voice, movement, theater games and improvisation, acting techniques, stage terminology, and the history of theater. We will also be exploring production and the technical side of theatre. Students will learn through performance, presentations, discussions, activities, written work, and self-reflections. Advanced classes (Drama II) will emphasize writing and public performance. Advanced drama classes will be made available to students with previous drama experience and at the discretion of the teacher.

High School Band (E)
This course is designed for more advanced students. Students will be encouraged to perform solo or ensemble music as well as audition for competitive musical groups. This course is offered for high school credit. This course is offered only on the basis of demand.

Mixed Chorus (E)
This class is designed to develop an appreciation of music using classical, popular and Christian styles. The atmosphere and demands of the course will be much less intense than the Advanced Vocal Ensemble; however, participation and contribution on the part of each individual is imperative.

Praise and Worship Ensemble (E)
This course provides instruction and experience in leading praise and worship services. Students learn various aspects such as song writing, song selection, arrangement, instrumentation, and thematic elements. Students will also receive a rudimentary musical education using piano, guitar, bass, drums and percussion. Students will participate in weekly chapel services, off-campus worship services, and special events. Audition required.

Guitar I  and II (E)
Guitar I is a beginner-level course designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of folk guitar.  Students will learn notes, scales, chords, and basic music theory.  Guitar required (preferably steel-string acoustic).  Guitar II is a continuation and expansion of the fundamentals learned in Guitar I.

Art I (E)
This general art course is basic to the sequential development of the secondary fine arts program.  Some of the students will find it to be an introduction to more advanced studies.  The emphasis is on design and the development of knowledge of the six art elements.  There is a lab fee plus supplies.

Art II  (E)

This is an accelerated course which offers the student an overview of most of the major areas in arts and crafts.  Emphasis is placed on design and development of a knowledge of the six art elements. There is a lab fee plus supplies.

Art III (E)

Taught as a studio art course, this class is designed to allow for more individual study.  The curriculum will follow, in general, the Art II curriculum, but the student will be allowed to choose the media he/she wishes to peruse in depth.  The emphasis will be on the larger and more difficult composition problems.  There is a lab fee plus supplies.
