Ongoing Opportunities to serve:

PAL Mentoring Program.   The PAL Mentoring program is a new and exciting mentoring program through the Police Athletic League (PAL).

What is it?  A mentoring program where volunteers will have the opportunity to brighten a child's life through one-on-one relationships with mentees.  Our funding, which comes out the the National Recovery Act, affords PAL the opportunity to complement existing programs like Big Brothers, Big Sisters. Our hope is to create a permanent program within PAL that makes a difference in our community and helps children aspire to achieve their maximum potential. We are looking for volunteers for mentor positions as well.

Nature of volunteer work:  Whether it is reading, talking, or playing a game of basketball, the program strives to create lasting relationships between the mentor and the mentee.

Commitment of Volunteers:  For at least one hour every week, children selected for this program will meet with their mentor and participate in an activity that is mutually agreed upon by both the mentor and the mentee.  The program is set up for 13 months of one-on-one mentoring that will take place, on location, at the PAL facility.

Contact:  Bradford Beck Program Coordinator New Mexico Metro PAL. bbeck@unm.edu or (505)301-5399 after 5pm on weekdays.
