Toyota Community Scholars

SCAGA, The Sun Country Amateur Golf Association
endeavors to assist qualified high school graduates or college students with financial aid. The funds goal is to award two $1500.00 scholarships per year, which may be renewed up to three times, for high school students or two years for college students if the student maintains a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and meets all the reporting requirements.
To apply, transcripts including ACT or SAT scores, a letter indicating your goals and objectives for college, 3 letters of recommendation. At least 1 must be from a SCAGA member. A copy of parents most current year tax return. Application deadline is in April of 2006. Contact 897-0864 for more information.

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship
Winners chosen based on their academic achievement and ACT/SAT scores. Minimum eligibility requirements are a 3.5 gpa and a 27 ACT or 1220 SAT. Awards are $1500 per year for up to 4 years. Approximately 44 students from around the state will be chosen.
This deadline is usually in May.

2004-2005 Scholarship Opportunities
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Multicultural Council, Inc. sponsors an annual program that brings together NM citizens from all backgrounds to celebrate the values put forth by Dr. King. A part of this celebration is to award scholarships to high school seniors who have expressed their understanding of Dr. King's values and who are interested in pursuing higher education. Bruce Angwin Memorial Scholarship, formerly the WESCON Scholarship-
Open to Juniors who plan to major in the electronics engineering field or an apporved associated field at a four-year university. The student must be graduating in 2006 from a high school in AK, AZ, CA, HI, ID, MT, NV, northern NM, which includes Albuquerque, OR, UT WA or western WY. Applicants must submit a 500-600 word essay, typed and single-spaced with the students name on the top of the first page. Application must be signed by a high school administrator; a current transcript is required. Deadline for postmark is May 1, 2005. NM Hispanic Bar Association will award scholarships to NM seniors who intend to attend a university in NM with a future emphasis in law. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit taking into consideration financial need, grade point average of 2.0 and above, past student community involvement and a genuine interest in attending law school in the future. NM Lottery Scholarship- Pays tuition beginning in the 2nd semester of college. Eligible students are awarded the scholarship automatically. There are no special application forms to complete. To qualify for the the NM Lottery Scholarship a student must be a graduate of a NM high school or earn a GED; enroll in a NM public institution the semester following graduation; maintain at least a 2.5 gpa; complete at least 12 credit hours per semester of freshmen level courses or higher - .www.nmlottery.com
Both of these scholarships are extremely competitive. Be thorough!
Regents'-Approximately $11,600 per year. Four-year, renewable award
Applicants must be a US citizen or permanent resident and meet the following:
* Valedictorian OR
* ACT composite score of 31 or higher or SAT of 1360 or higher OR
* A cumulative sixth semester grade point average of 3.9 or higher AND
* A statement of goals and philosophy, and
* Two letters of recommendation
(Even though students may meet one of the minimum requirements listed, at the second level of review at least two of the items mentioned, as minimums will advance a candidate to the next level. Semi-finalists are required to attend scholarship interviews during the first week in February. )See Mrs. Cantrell or go to www.unm.edu
Presidential-Approximately $5400 per year. Four-year, renewable award. (Tuition portion of this award is funded by the Lottery Success Scholarship.)
Applicants must be a US citizen or permanent resident, a NM resident, and meet the following:
* Cumlative sixth semester 3.75 munimum grade point average
* ACT composite score of 25 or higher or SAT of 1140
* Leadership experience with outstanding extracurricular record
* Statement of philosophy and purpose

Sussman Miller Educational Assistance Fund
Fills the “Gap” of financial need between costs of college and the personal financial commitment and financial aid awards. Two deadlines: April deadline is for students attending out-of-state and /or private schools and June deadline is for students attending in-state institutions.

Manuel Lujan Excellence in Education Program
Award is $700.00 per year for up to four years of college. Students must be nominated by their high school.
SCAGA Sun Country Amateur Golf Association Scholarship Program
Must be a senior with a 3.0 GPA or better, have an outstanding personal character and some connection to golf. Applicants must qualify for financial aid and be recommended in writing by 3 people. Award is $1500.00 per year and is renewable based on GPA.
